he noted recent data that only 39% of cases with significant astigmatism received implantation of a toric IOL. "Fortunately, the CATALYS system solves these chal- lenges beautifully. The workflow provides an efficient, easy, precise, and accurate process in which to treat astigmatism with great confidence," Dr. Bishop said. The foundation for the Cassini and IOLMaster to the CATALYS integration starts with the CATALYS itself, Dr. Bishop said. The system's essentials address unmet needs in the astigmatism workflow. Advanced visualization is im- portant, he said. The CATALYS features an integral guidance system coupled with a liquid optics interface. Using 3D OCT imaging and surface mapping through a clear optical path, real-time visualization of the eye is provided throughout the procedure. This allows accurate placement of very precise radial corneal laser marks that help the surgeon achieve consistent and reliable alignment of toric IOLs, he said. A premium patient experience is equally important. The liquid optics technology provides gentle docking with minimal force on the eye. Patients don't have an increase in intraocu- lar pressure, and they don't experience transitory vision loss. Per Dr. Bishop, the workflow is efficient and easy with intuitive interfaces. In approximately 20 seconds, the pa- tient demographic and corneal data along with iris registra- tion are uploaded to the system. Human error is minimized by avoiding manual data entry, confirming patient iden- tification, and eliminating manual marking with ink. Dr. Bishop said the CATALYS automatically populates anterior and total keratometry values into the treatment plan. In approximately 30 seconds, the imported data is reviewed, and the toric mark calculator is confirmed. Iris registration automatically confirms patient identification and accounts continued on next page for cyclorotation. It then delineates the patient's steep axis in the CATALYS integral guidance system. The iris registration data easily translates to a success- ful match in greater than 97% of cases. Dr. Bishop empha- sized that the CATALYS workflow creates easily visualized, accurate, and precise toric alignment marks at the "push of a button and depression of a pedal." In turn, the toric lens is placed exactly where planned, resulting in a premium patient experience. p Dr. Korn demonstrates potential clinical uses of the Apple Vision Pro at Sharp HealthCare's Prebys Innovation and Education Center. Source: Johnson & Johnson Vision Digital tools from Apple Wrapping up this session was Tommy Korn, MD, discussing Apple's digital tools and a new era in cataract surgery. When you're evaluating a digital product, service, or hardware, Dr. Korn said it's important to think about if it's safe, seamless, and secure. Why Apple? Dr. Korn said 80–90% of all doctors use the iOS Apple ecosystem and iPhone. There's a 98–99% customer satisfaction for Apple device experiences and more than 2 billion active Apple devices in the world, he said, adding that Epic Health Systems, the largest EHR company, has dedicated EHR apps for all of Apple's digital devices— Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Dr. Korn noted that it's important to have an integrated approach because you're not going to use one device or tool for everything. You want to develop software that works seamlessly across all devices.
