"Once I've planned all my cases, I want to be able to tell the surgery center what lenses to pull," Dr. Lobanoff said. With Eyetelligence, a PDF is created. "It lists the patient's name, what surgery is being done, and what lens is being used, and my staff can send this PDF to the surgery center." Another feature he likes is the ability to continue to track a patient even after they have been passed back to their OD. This gives the visual acuity and pressure, and if those fall in the normal range, the patient appears in green. If these are outside the normal range, the patient would appear in red, and the physician would know to follow up. Dr. Lobanoff said he is excited about the prospect of be- ing able to look at subsets of patients with the postop data imported directly into the EMR. Veracity, Carl Zeiss Meditec Nicole Fram, MD, discussed the Veracity technology (Carl Zeiss Meditec). About 4 years ago, she started working with Carl Zeiss Meditec as a beta site for the Cataract Workflow tool and said she doesn't know how she lived without this technology. The Veracity Cataract Workflow's initial setup involves an integration tab connected to the EMR. This software allows for integration of all preoperative measurements including biom- etry, topography, and tomography, she said, adding that you can use any technology (not just Carl Zeiss Meditec technology). Then there is the patient evaluation and questionnaire, treatment planning, surgical plan communication, operating room, and postoperative task management; you can really look in the mirror and see how you're doing with outcomes, she said. "We often guess how we're doing, but we don't want to have to guess when we're trying to hit refractive targets for our patients. This is especially true with all of this incredible lens technology that's coming in the near future." Dr. Fram noted that when picking the lens with the Veracity system, she thinks Carl Zeiss Meditec has done an excellent job incorporating so many state-of-the-art formu- las. You can also use this technology with Barrett Integrated Ks for more precise astigmatism management. In addition, the surgeon can verify that the biometer they chose is giving a reliable reading, which is critical, she said. If you are using the IOLMaster 700 (Carl Zeiss Meditec), the reference images can then go into the OR and be integrated into the microscope for digital marking or into the femtosecond laser technology for digital marking and cyclotorsion control. You might be thinking, why do I need all of this? Dr. Fram said. For those who say they just use the Barrett formula, there are new AI formulas and toric formulas that physicians should be looking at—the Zeiss IOL Calculator, Kane, Hill-RBF, and the Barrett True K Toric Calculator. Some of the most complex calculations are post-LASIK toric calculations, she said. There is a disruption of the relationship between the anterior and posterior cornea with corneal refractive surgery of any kind, so physicians can't rely on the assumptive nature of regular formulas continued on next page p Barrett Integrated Ks allow a physician to use multiple technologies to plan astigmatism reduction/correction. Manual entry of Barrett Integrated Ks may involve more than 25 clicks/entries with risk of transcription errors and increased time planning. Source: Nicole Fram, MD p In contrast to the above, Veracity allows the ability to achieve the same outcome using 3 clicks/entries for more streamlined planning. Source: Nicole Fram, MD
