Cataract Surgery & All the Subspecialties Sponsored by the ASCRS Clinical Committees Moderator: Zaina Al-Mohtaseb, MD Co-existing ocular disease can pose unique challenges to cataract surgery. In this symposium, we will discuss cataract surgery in patients with oculoplastic disease (such as lid abnormalities), retinal disease (such as age-related macular degeneration or diabetic macular edema), glaucoma (previous filtering surgery), neuro-ophthalmic disease (such as prior AION or diplopia), and corneal disease (Fuchs or previous corneal grafts). We will discuss preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative risks in these complex eyes and pearls on how to approach cataract surgery. 10:15–11:45 A.M. BEST VIDEOS EVER! Making the Uncomfortable Comfortable: Strategies for Managing Complex Cases and Advanced Technology IOLs Part II Sponsored by the ASCRS Cataract Clinical Committee Moderator: Richard Tipperman, MD This is Part 2 of a two-part symposium that will review, strategies, techniques, and technologies to provide better outcomes for routine cases, complex cases, and advanced technology IOLs. There will be an emphasis on approaches that all surgeons can utilize to improve clinical interactions in the exam lanes as well as the operating room. 1:30–3:00 P.M. The Perfect Save: Challenging Cases Managed by International Experts Sponsored by the Intra-Ocular Implant Club (IIIC) Moderators: Eric Donnenfeld, MD, Ronald Yeoh, MD The International Intra-Ocular Implant Club (IIIC) was founded in 1966 by Sir Harold Ridley, the inventor of the IOL, and is an invitational society devoted to the art and the science of intraocular lens implantation. This symposium will focus on case-based cataract surgery, including management of complications, new technology, IOL calculations, and advanced techniques to improve surgical outcomes. The expertise of international leaders in cataract surgery will be highlighted in this program featuring video presentations and will be discussed by a panel of thought leaders in the field of lens-based surgery. 1:30–3:00 P.M. Challenging Cases Sponsored by the Brazilian Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Moderator: Gustavo Baptista, MD The purpose of this symposium is to further advance our knowledge about challenging cases, discussing in detail different strategies, techniques, and results. After the presentations, the audience will be able to implement or test insightful strategies or recognize non-traditional behaviors. All cases will be presented in 5 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of discussion in English.
