2023 ASCRS ANNUAL MEETING PREVIEW PROGRAM | 17 ASCRS PROGRAM SYMPOSIA ON SUNDAY, MAY 7 8:00–9:30 A.M. Making the Uncomfortable Comfortable: Strategies for Managing Complex Cases and Advanced Technology IOLs Part I Sponsored by the ASCRS Cataract Clinical Committee Moderator: Richard Tipperman, MD This is Part 1 of a two-part symposium that will review strategies, techniques, and technologies to provide better outcomes for routine cases, complex cases, and advanced technology IOLs. There will be an emphasis on approaches that all surgeons can utilize to improve clinical interactions in the exam lanes as well as the operating room. 8:00–9:30 A.M. Myths and Misconceptions in Refractive Surgery Sponsored by the ASCRS Refractive Surgery Clinical Committee Moderators: Preeya Gupta, MD, Audrey Talley Rostov, MD In this symposium, we will review common misconceptions and practice patterns in refractive surgery. An engaging panel will debate and review the evidence for these practices and in some cases debunk these common myths. 1:30–3:00 P.M. Clinical Conundrums in Cornea Sponsored by ASCRS and the Cornea Society Moderators: Sophie Deng, MD, Bennie Jeng, MD Both corneal specialists and comprehensive ophthalmologists encounter difficult corneal and ocular surface conditions that are challenging to manage. Conflicting results on the outcome of different treatments make it difficult for the treating clinician to formulate the best management plan. In this case-based symposium, cases will be presented, and the invited faculty will share their experience and provide evidence-based guidelines in managing these challenging cases either medically or surgically. Different surgical approaches will also be discussed. 1:30–3:00 P.M. TOPGUN: Phaco Mavericks Moderator: David Chang, MD Twelve international instructors will give you their best and most essential pearls that have helped each of them become a leading surgeon. The ASCRS team features some of the top residency/fellowship phaco instructors from North America. They will compete against an international team of leading phaco masters from ESCRS, APACRS, and LASCRS. Rather than teaching complex maneuvers, they will present practical "trade secrets" that you can incorporate in the OR next week. This rapid-fire video session will be extremely fast paced because our attendees feel the need ... the need for speed! 3:30–5:00 P.M. Evaluating Irregular Corneas for Refractive Surgery Sponsored by the ASCRS Cornea Clinical Committee and ASCRS Refractive Surgery Clinical Committee Moderators: Marjan Farid, MD, Cathleen McCabe, MD This symposium will provide an interactive case-based discussion of important points when considering how to counsel patients, evaluate complicated corneas prior to refractive surgery, and ultimately determine the best management and surgical treatment to achieve a refractive outcome. Topography essentials, the role of genetic testing in corneal refractive surgery, and an update on corneal crosslinking will also be presented. 3:30–5:00 P.M. Combined Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Symposium Moderators: Graham Barrett, MD, William De La Peña, MD, Oliver Findl, MD, Elizabeth Yeu, MD More information coming soon
