1990s–2000s SUPPLEMENT TO EYEWORLD | 43 Hurricane Katrina hit the building," Dr. McDonald said. "It was a great honor and joy to be the first medical edi- tor; people loved EyeWorld, as they still do." Dr. Obstbaum gave Dr. McDonald credit as the per- son who "really spearheaded EyeWorld." Her background was not only cataract but also refractive surgery, cornea, and dry eye. Aer 6 years, Dr. Obstbaum was brought on as EyeWorld co-editor, adding a glaucoma perspective to the publication. "We served a year or so together, then I became the editor," he said. Dr. Obstbaum also wanted to ensure that content in EyeWorld continued to be unique. "I thought we needed to get different points of view in the articles, and that's what we did," he said, echoing Dr. McDonald's state- ments about having a number of sources for each article. "I thought it created a better balance." Dr. Obstbaum then invited Stephen Lane, MD, to join the publication because of his background in cornea and refractive surgery. Shortly aer, Dr. Holland joined as well. "Every Friday morning … we were on a conference call," Dr. Obstbaum said, adding that the conversation would touch on articles as well as who they wanted to get involved with reviewing and commenting on topics. EyeWorld now has a chief medical editor, section edi- tors, and an Editorial Board, all of which drives content ideas for the magazine, while professional writers, edi- tors, and design staff put together the magazine as a whole. EyeWorld underwent a redesign in 2019, debuting a new size and layout style, but it maintained its commit- ment to being the member publication of ASCRS with balanced clinical content from a variety of voices.
