2022 ASCRS Annual Meeting Preview Program | 15 ASCRS PROGRAM SYMPOSIA ON SUNDAY, APRIL 24 8:00–9:30 a.m. In Between the Edits: A Video-Based Symposia Sponsored by ASCRS and the Vanguard Ophthalmology Society Moderator: Nicole Fram, MD, Jonathan Solomon, MD The Vanguard Ophthalmology Society symposium will show what's really happening during eye surgery—in between the video edits. The purpose of this video-based symposium is to reveal how to use the most innovative surgical techniques to improve patient outcomes and develop reflex-like responses to the sometimes unexpected surgical dilemmas in surgery. Management Pearls on Challenging Corneal Diseases Sponsored by ASCRS and the Cornea Society Moderators: Sophie Deng, MD, PhD, Bennie Jeng, MD Both corneal specialists and comprehensive ophthalmologists could encounter difficult corneal and ocular surface diseases. Conflicting results on the outcome of treatments make it more difficult for the treating clinician to formulate the best management plan. In this symposium, faculty will share their experiences and provide evidence- based guidelines in managing challenging cases such as crosslinking in the pediatric population and corneal and ocular surface diseases. Cataract Crossover Symposium Sponsored by the ASCRS Clinical Committees Moderator: Zaina Al-Mohtaseb, MD Co-existing ocular disease can pose unique challenges to cataract surgery. In this symposium, presenters will discuss cataract surgery in patients with oculoplastic disease (such as lid abnormalities), retinal disease (such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema), glaucoma (previous filtering surgery), neuro-ophthalmic disease (such as prior AION and diplopia), and corneal disease (Fuchs or previous corneal grafts). Presenters will discuss preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative risks in these complex eyes and share pearls on how to approach cataract surgery. 1:30–3:00 p.m. Refractive Surgery Rare Circumstances: What, When, and How to Handle Complications Sponsored by the ASCRS Refractive Surgery Clinical Committee Moderators: Kathryn Hatch, MD, William Wiley, MD Corneal refractive surgery is extremely successful with high patient satisfaction. As with any surgical procedure, however, there are inherent risks. As techniques and technologies improve, inherent complications may be mitigated. This session will explore various refractive surgery techniques and shed light on complications and treatment options. Essential Strategies for Improving Refractive Cataract Surgery Outcomes Sponsored by the ASCRS Cataract Clinical Committee Moderators: Warren Hill, MD, Kevin Miller, MD This symposium will cover everything attendees need to know to deliver excellent refractive outcomes in cataract surgery, from explaining what refractive surgery is, to advanced IOL power calculation, to astigmatism management, to cataract removal and premium IOL implantation. Government Relations Symposium Sponsored by the ASCRS Government Relations Committee See the 2022 ASCRS Annual Meeting Final Program for more information about this session. 3:30–5:00 p.m. X-Rounds: Refractive Cataract Surgery to the Max Moderator: Eric Donnenfeld, MD This fast-paced session will feature the latest and greatest in refractive cataract surgery. Leading surgeons will discuss new advances in cataract surgery, FLACS, refractive IOLs, and case management. The panel will facilitate discussion on current refractive cataract issues that today's ophthalmologists are facing.
