2021 ASCRS Annual Meeting Preview Program | 7 ASCRS PROGRAM WELCOME LETTER Colleagues, Welcome to the 2021 ASCRS Annual Meeting! As clinicians, we gain some of our most valuable insights from talking with our colleagues. In the past year, we have seen that this type of learning cannot be duplicated in a virtual environment. I look forward to the return to live meetings and to seeing many friends and colleagues in Las Vegas, Nevada. ASCRS is bringing together the top thought leaders and researchers in all areas of anterior segment ophthalmology. This year's meeting promises to be exceptional, designed to provide the best education, inspiring speakers, and great opportunities for attendees to network with colleagues. Highlights of the 2021 meeting will include: • The keynote speech given by Scott Gottlieb, MD, former head of the Food and Drug Administration and a leading authority on COVID-19 • The Binkhorst Lecture delivered by Richard Lewis, MD • The Charles D. Kelman Innovator's Lecture delivered by Stephen Slade, MD • The inaugural Lindstrom Symposium acknowledging the 40+ years of immeasurable contributions to ASCRS by Richard Lindstrom, MD • The Best of ASCRS, a session that discusses the best papers from the 2021 meeting • The opportunity to earn up to 37 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM from content that covers all aspects of anterior segment surgery and disease management • Smaller roundtable discussions with leading experts in various topics anterior segment surgery • ASCRS Subspecialty Day, including Cornea Day, Refractive Day, and Glaucoma Day, on Friday, July 23 New for 2021: • The ASCRS Tap Room, located in the Exhibit Hall, is a venue for casual meetings and reconnecting with peers over shared interests while enjoying a beverage and snack. • The Ophthalmology Quicksand Chronicles podcast will broadcast live from the Tap Room with hosts Nicole Fram, MD, and Elizabeth Yeu, MD, chatting with guests about their most impactful surgical moments and lessons learned. • ASCRS Glaucoma Clinical Committee Chair Leon Herndon, MD, and a panel of speakers will discuss the role race plays in delivering equitable eyecare to underserved patients in this timely social conversation.
